8 ΟὐNot γὰρfor θέλομενwe are willing ὑμᾶςyou ἀγνοεῖν,to be not knowing, ἀδελφοί,brothers, ὑπὲρover τῆςthe θλίψεωςtribulation ἡμῶνof us τῆςof the (one) γενομένηςhaving occurred ἐνin τῇthe ᾿Ασίᾳ,Asia, ὅτιthat καθ’according to ὑπερβολὴνover-cast ὑπὲρover δύναμινpower ἐβαρήθημεν,we were weighted down, ὥστεas-and ἐξαπορηθῆναιto be with no way out ἡμᾶςus καὶand τοῦof the ζῇν·to be living; 9 ἀλλὰbut αὐτοὶvery (ones) ἐνin ἑαυτοῖςselves τὸthe ἀπόκριμαanswer τοῦof the θανάτουdeath ἐσχήκαμεν,we have had, ἵναin order that μὴnot πεποιθότεςhaving trusted ὦμενwe may be ἐφ’upon ἑαυτοῖςselves ἀλλ’but ἐπὶupon τῷthe θεῷGod τῷthe (one) ἐγείροντιraising up τοὺςthe νεκρούς·dead (ones); 10 ὃςwho ἐκout of τηλικούτουso great θανάτουdeath ἐρύσατοhe drew toward self ἡμᾶςus καὶand ῥύσεται,he will draw toward self, εἰςinto ὃνwhom ἠλπίκαμενwe have hoped ὅτιthat καὶalso ἔτιyet ῥύσεται,he will draw toward self, 11 συνυπουργούντωνcooperating under καὶalso ὑμῶνof you ὑπὲρover ἡμῶνus τῇto the δεήσει,supplication, ἵναin order that ἐκout of πολλῶνmany προσώπωνfaces τὸthe εἰςinto ἡμᾶςus χάρισμαgracious gift διὰthrough πολλῶνmany (ones) εὐχαριστηθῇmight be thanked ὑπὲρover ἡμῶν.us.

12 ἩThe γὰρfor καύχησιςboasting ἡμῶνof us αὕτηthis ἐστίν,is, τὸthe μαρτύριονwitness τῆςof the συνειδήσεωςconscience ἡμῶν,of us, ὅτιthat ἐνin ἁγιότητιholiness καὶand εἰλικρινίᾳsincerity τοῦof the θεοῦ,God, καὶand οὐκnot ἐνin σοφίᾳwisdom σαρκικῇfleshly ἀλλ’but ἐνin χάριτιgrace θεοῦ,of God, ἀνεστράφημενwe were turned back ἐνin τῷthe κόσμῳ,world, περισσοτέρωςmore abundantly δὲbut πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶς·you; 13 οὐnot γὰρfor ἄλλαother (things) γράφομενwe are writing ὑμῖνto you ἀλλ’but ἢthan ἃwhat (things) ἀναγινώσκετεyou are reading ἢor καὶalso ἐπιγινώσκετε,you are recognizing, ἐλπίζωI am hoping δὲbut ὅτιthat ἕωςuntil τέλουςend ἐπιγνώσεσθε,you will recognize, 14 καθὼςaccording as καὶalso ἐπέγνωτεyou recognized ἡμᾶςus ἀπὸfrom μέρους,part, ὅτιthat καύχημαboasting ὑμῶνof you ἐσμὲνwe are καθάπερaccording to which (things) even καὶalso ὑμεῖςyou ἡμῶνof us ἐνin τῇthe ἡμέρᾳday τοῦof the κυρίουLord ἡμῶνof us Ἰησοῦ.of Jesus.

15 ΚαὶAnd ταύτῃto this τῇto the πεποιθήσειconfidence ἐβουλόμηνI was wishing πρότερονformerly πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶςyou ἐλθεῖν,to come, ἵναin order that δευτέρανsecond χαρὰνjoy σχῆτε,you might have, 16 καὶand δι’through ὑμῶνyou διελθεῖνto go through εἰςinto Μακεδονίαν,Macedonia, καὶand πάλινagain ἀπὸfrom ΜακεδονίαςMacedonia ἐλθεῖνto come πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶςyou καὶand ὑφ’by ὑμῶνyou προπεμφθῆναιto be sent forward εἰςinto τὴνthe Ἰουδαίαν.Judea. 17 τοῦτοThis οὖνtherefore βουλόμενοςwishing μήτιnot-something ἄραreally τῇto the ἐλαφρίᾳlightness ἐχρησάμην;I used? ἢOr ἃwhat (things) βουλεύομαιI am taking counsel with self κατὰaccording to σάρκαflesh βουλεύομαι,I am taking counsel with self, ἵναin order that ᾖit may be παρ’beside ἐμοὶme τὸthe ΝαὶYes ναὶyes καὶand τὸthe ΟὒNo οὔ;no; 18πιστὸςfaithful δὲbut ὁthe θεὸςGod ὅτιthat ὁthe λόγοςword ἡμῶνof us ὁthe (one) πρὸςtoward ὑμᾶςyou οὐκnot ἔστινit is ΝαίYes καὶand Οὔ·No; 19 ὁthe τοῦof the θεοῦGod γὰρfor υἱὸςSon ΧριστὸςChrist ἸησοῦςJesus ὁthe (one) ἐνin ὑμῖνyou δι’through ἡμῶνus κηρυχθείς,having been preached, δι’through ἐμοῦme καὶand Σιλουανοῦof Silvanus καὶand Τιμοθέου,of Timothy, οὐκnot ἐγένετοhe became ΝαίYes καὶand Οὔ,No, ἀλλὰbut ΝαίYes ἐνin αὐτῷhim γέγονεν·he has become; 20 ὅσαιas many as γὰρfor ἐπαγγελίαιpromises θεοῦ,of God, ἐνin αὐτῷhim τόthe Ναί·Yes; διὸthrough which καὶalso δι’through αὐτοῦhim τόthe ᾿ΑμήνAmen τῷto the θεῷGod πρὸςtoward δόξανglory δι’through ἡμῶν.us. 21 ὁThe (one) δὲbut βεβαιῶνstabilizing ἡμᾶςus σὺνtogether with ὑμῖνyou εἰςinto ΧριστὸνChrist καὶand χρίσαςhaving anointed ἡμᾶςus θεός,God, 22 ὁthe (one) καὶalso σφραγισάμενοςhaving sealed ἡμᾶςus καὶand δοὺςhaving given τὸνthe ἀρραβῶναtoken τοῦof the πνεύματοςspirit ἐνin ταῖςthe καρδίαιςhearts ἡμῶν.of us.
