The Bible is a collection of 66 “books” that were written over a period of more than 1,600 years. This encompasses thousands of historical settings and Bible backgrounds that can handicap our ability to precisely determine what the author meant by the words that he used. Thirty-nine books of the Old Testament were written in Hebrew with very small portions in Aramaic, while the twenty-seven books of the New Testament were written in Koine (common) Greek. Therefore, we have 40+ authors penning sixty-six books over a 1600-year period in three languages, as well as dozens of different cultures and historical settings. Because it was written so long ago, there are things that we, in the 21st century, may find difficult to understand. Thus, the subcategories to this page will cover the background articles. Simply hold your mouse over this main page heading and in the drop-down choose OT Bible Backgrounds or NT Bible Backgrounds.
