The Source of Strong Confidence
Proverbs 14:26 Updated American Standard Version (UASV)
26 In the fear of Jehovah there is strong confidence,
and his children will have a refuge.
In the fear of Jehovah there is strong confidence: Throughout the entire book of Proverbs, the fear of Jehovah is the repeated theme of wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. One who fears Jehovah, has the qualities of humility (15:33; 22:4), wisdom (1:7), possessing faithfulness and Godly love (16:6), and a concern for his relationship with God (2:5; 9:10). In the book of Proverbs, fear of Jehovah is related to faith in God that is constantly seeking understanding. Strong confidence (מִבְטַח־עֹז oz mibtach) means to be safe or secure; that is, the man of God is under the protection of Jehovah. A man who fears Jehovah faces the difficulty of life with strong confidence! His life is long and blessed.
and his children will have a refuge: Here refuge (מַחֲסֶה machaseh) refers to the assistance protection provided by Jehovah.
We are encouraged to live in the reverential fear of Jehovah, which brings many advantages to our Christian life. This intimate relationship with God gives us security, peace of mind, and strong confidence. It empowers us to have boldness before God and the world. We know that we are standing justified before God. It also involves a blessing upon our children. The children of the faithful have God as their confidence and they too are encouraged by the fact that God has been a place of refuge to their believing parents and now to them and their future offspring being able to flee to him as a refuge. The entire family for generations shall find shelter in Jehovah God.
