The Wicked Lie Constantly and Continuously Devise Evil
Proverbs 6:13 Updated American Standard Version (UASV)
13 winks with his eyes, scrapes[1] with his feet,
points with[2] his finger,
Winks with his eyes, scrapes with his feet: Here winks (קָרַץ qarats) is a gesture where the worthless, wicked person signals insincerity and deceit with a smirk on his face. Scrapes (מָלַל malal) … feet is also a silent gesture of insincerity and deceit from the worthless, wicked person, which is only found once, here in the Old Testament.
Points with his finger: Another non-verbal, silent gesture, attempting to divert attention away from his insincerity and deceit, his worthless, evil ways.
Here we have yet more behaviors that will ruin a person’s reputation not only among family and friends but also with God, insincerity, and deceit, worthless, evil ways. This verse describes or defines a deceiver. Liars generally try to hide their dishonesty, deception, and trickery. They do so “with crooked speech,” as we discovered in 6:12, and now we see it is also with body language. One can use gestures, tone of voice, and facial expressions in order to conceal their deception. The person mentally bent toward evil can show themselves as sincere in order to obscure their dishonesty. This person is worthless as he goes about engineering malicious plans and is instigating disagreements whenever he can.
