Matthew 1:8 Updated American Standard Version (UASV)
8 and Asa became the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat became the father of Joram,[1] and Joram became the father of Uzziah,
Here Matthew says, “and Joram became the father of Uzziah.” Yet, 1 Chronicles 3:11 says, “Joram his son [and then], Ahaziah his son, Joash his son.” Thus, which is it? “Father” is here used in the sense of “forefather,” which is often the case in genealogical lists. It would seem that Ahaziah was the immediate son of Joram (or Jehoram), while Uzziah was a distant son. When we compare 1 Chronicles 3:11-12 with Matthew 1:8, we see three wicked kings (Ahaziah, Jehoash, and Amaziah) in the Davidic line are omitted between Jehoram and Uzziah (also called Azariah).
[1] Gr for Jehoram in 2 Kings 8:16; See 1 Chronicles 3:11
