The principle of analogy states that an effect must be similar to its cause. Like produces like. An effect cannot be totally different from its cause. An act (or actor) communicates actuality.

Ernst Troeltsch was a liberal theologian who was intensely involved in social and political issues and a historian and philosopher. His work dismissed the Bible and regarded all religions as culturally conditioned, yet he detested the relativism his ideas promoted.
