Daily Devotional – 2 Timothy 3:15
Read the Text
“From infancy you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
The Meaning in Context
Paul reminds Timothy that Scripture is not a religious accessory; it is God’s instrument to produce wisdom that leads to salvation. The “sacred writings” are not human guesses about God. They are God-breathed revelation, accurate and authoritative, sufficient to shape belief and conduct. Timothy’s early exposure did not save him automatically; it positioned him to be made “wise for salvation” through faith in Christ Jesus. Scripture informs the mind, faith receives the Christ Scripture proclaims, and obedience follows as the fruit of genuine faith.
This verse also exposes Satan’s central strategy: sever people from Scripture. If he can replace the Bible with feelings, trends, mystical impressions, or mere tradition, he can keep a person religious but not rescued. The sacred writings make a person wise, meaning they teach discernment—what is true, what is false, what is sin, what is righteousness, and why Christ is the only Savior.
The phrase “through faith in Christ Jesus” guards two errors. It refuses salvation by heritage, because Timothy’s childhood exposure was not enough by itself. It also refuses salvation by private spirituality, because faith must be anchored in the Christ revealed in Scripture. God guides through His Spirit-inspired Word, not by inner voices that compete with Scripture.

Living It Today
If Scripture can make you wise for salvation, then neglecting Scripture is not neutral. It is spiritually dangerous. Treat Bible intake as daily bread. Read it, meditate on it, and apply it. Train your conscience by it. Resist the modern impulse to outsource your discernment to influencers. Jehovah has spoken in His Word.
Parents and mentors should feel the weight of this verse without gimmicks. Give children the sacred writings early. Not as moralism, but as truth. Teach them who Jehovah is, what sin is, why Christ came, and why resurrection hope matters. Salvation is a path of faithfulness, and Scripture supplies the wisdom necessary to walk it.
For every believer, this is also a call to evangelism. People are not saved by your personality; they are saved by the truth of the gospel as Scripture sets it forth. Put Scripture into conversations. Quote it. Explain it. Invite others to read it. Satan hates plain Bible reading because it exposes him.
Prayerful Focus
Jehovah, deepen my hunger for the sacred writings. Make me wise through Scripture, strengthen my faith in Christ, and steady my steps in obedience. Use Your Word through me to help others.
