CHAPTER 1♠

1 ᾿ΕνIn ἀρχῇbeginning ἦνwas ὁthe λόγος,Word, καὶand ὁthe λόγοςWord ἦνwas πρὸςtoward τὸνthe θεόν,God, καὶand θεὸςGod ἦνwas ὁthe λόγος.Word. 2 ΟὗτοςThis (one) ἦνwas ἐνin ἀρχῇbeginning πρὸςtoward τὸνthe θεόν.God. 3 πάνταAll (things) δι’through αὐτοῦhim ἐγένετο,came to be, καὶand χωρὶςapart from αὐτοῦhim ἐγένετοcame to be οὐδὲnot-but ἕν.one (thing).

ὃWhich γέγονενhas come to be 4 ἐνin αὐτῷhim ζωὴlife ἦν,was, καὶand ἡthe ζωὴlife ἦνwas τὸthe φῶςlight τῶνof the ἀνθρώπων·men; 5 καὶand τὸthe φῶςlight ἐνin τῇthe σκοτίᾳdarkness φαίνει,is shining, καὶand ἡthe σκοτίαdarkness αὐτὸit οὐnot κατέλαβεν.overpowered.

6 ᾿ΕγένετοCame to be ἄνθρωποςman ἀπεσταλμένοςhaving been sent forth παρὰbeside θεοῦ,God, ὄνομαname αὐτῷto him Ἰωάνης·John; 7 οὗτοςthis (one) ἦλθενcame εἰςinto μαρτυρίαν,witness, ἵναin order that μαρτυρήσῃhe might witness περὶabout τοῦthe φωτός,light, ἵναin order that πάντεςall πιστεύσωσινmight believe δι’through αὐτοῦ.him. 8 οὐκNot ἦνwas ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) τὸthe φῶς,light, ἀλλ’but ἵναin order that μαρτυρήσῃhe might witness περὶabout τοῦthe φωτός.light.

9 ῏ΗνWas τὸthe φῶςlight τὸthe ἀληθινὸνtrue ὃwhich φωτίζειis enlightening πάνταevery ἄνθρωπονman ἐρχόμενονcoming εἰςinto τὸνthe κόσμον.world. 10 ἐνIn τῷthe κόσμῳworld ἦν,he was, καὶand ὁthe κόσμοςworld δι’through αὐτοῦhim ἐγένετο,came to be, καὶand ὁthe κόσμοςworld αὐτὸνhim οὐκnot ἔγνω.knew. 11 ΕἰςInto τὰthe ἴδιαown (things) ἦλθεν,he came, καὶand οἱthe ἴδιοιown (ones) αὐτὸνhim οὐnot παρέλαβον.took alongside. 12ὅσοιAs many as δὲbut ἔλαβονtook αὐτόν,him, ἔδωκενhe gave αὐτοῖςto them ἐξουσίανauthority τέκναchildren θεοῦof God γενέσθαι,to become, τοῖςto the (ones) πιστεύουσινbelieving εἰςinto τὸthe ὄνομαname αὐτοῦ,of him, 13 οἳwho οὐκnot ἐξout of αἱμάτωνbloods οὐδὲnor ἐκout of θελήματοςwill σαρκὸςof flesh οὐδὲnor ἐκout of θελήματοςwill ἀνδρὸςof male person ἀλλ’but ἐκout of θεοῦGod ἐγεννήθησαν.they were born.

14 ΚαὶAnd ὁthe λόγοςWord σὰρξflesh ἐγένετοbecame καὶand ἐσκήνωσενtented ἐνin ἡμῖν,us, καὶand ἐθεασάμεθαwe viewed τὴνthe δόξανglory αὐτοῦ,of him, δόξανglory ὡςas μονογενοῦςof only-begotten (one) παρὰbeside πατρός,of father, πλήρηςfull χάριτοςof grace καὶand ἀληθείας·truth; 15 ἸωάνηςJohn μαρτυρεῖis witnessing περὶabout αὐτοῦhim καὶand κέκραγενhe has cried out λέγων—saying— οὗτοςthis (one) ἦνwas ὁthe (one) εἰπών—having said— ὉThe (one) ὀπίσωbehind μουme ἐρχόμενοςcoming ἔμπροσθένin front μουof me γέγονεν,has come to be, ὅτιbecause πρῶτόςfirst μουof me ἦν·he was; 16 ὅτιbecause ἐκout of τοῦthe πληρώματοςfullness αὐτοῦof him ἡμεῖςwe πάντεςall ἐλάβομεν,received, καὶand χάρινgrace ἀντὶupon χάριτος·grace; 17 ὅτιbecause ὁthe νόμοςlaw διὰthrough ΜωυσέωςMoses ἐδόθη,was given, ἡthe χάριςgrace καὶand ἡthe ἀλήθειαtruth διὰthrough ἸησοῦJesus ΧριστοῦChrist ἐγένετο.came to be. 18 θεὸνGod οὐδεὶςno one ἑώρακενhas seen πώποτε·♥at any time; μονογενὴςonly-begotten θεὸς♣God ὁthe (one) ὢνbeing εἰςinto τὸνthe κόλπονbosom τοῦof the πατρὸςFather ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) ἐξηγήσατο.explained.

19 ΚαὶAnd αὕτηthis ἐστὶνis ἡthe μαρτυρίαwitness τοῦof the ἸωάνουJohn ὅτεwhen ἀπέστειλανsent forth πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews ἐξout of ἸεροσολύμωνJerusalem ἱερεῖςpriests καὶand ΛευείταςLevites ἵναin order that ἐρωτήσωσινthey might question αὐτόνhim ΣὺYou τίςwho εἶ;you are?20 καὶAnd ὡμολόγησενhe confessed καὶand οὐκnot ἠρνήσατο,he denied, καὶand ὡμολόγησενhe confessed ὅτιthat ᾿ΕγὼI οὐκnot εἰμὶam ὁthe χριστός.Christ. 21καὶAnd ἠρώτησανthey questioned αὐτόνhim ΤίWhat οὖν;therefore? σὺYou ἨλείαςElijah εἶ;are? καὶAnd λέγειhe is saying ΟὐκNot εἰμί.I am. ὉThe προφήτηςProphet εἶare σύ;you? καὶAnd ἀπεκρίθηhe answered Οὔ.No. 22 εἶπανThey said οὖνtherefore αὐτῷto him ΤίςWho εἶ;are you? ἵναin order that ἀπόκρισινanswer δῶμενwe might give τοῖςto the (ones) πέμψασινhaving sent ἡμᾶς·us; τίwhat λέγειςare you saying περὶabout σεαυτοῦ;yourself? 23 ἔφηHe said ᾿ΕγὼI φωνὴvoice βοῶντοςof (one) crying aloud ἐνin τῇthe ἐρήμῳdesolate ΕὐθύνατεMake you straight τὴνthe ὁδὸνway Κυρίου,of Lord, καθὼςaccording as εἶπενsaid ἨσαίαςIsaiah ὁthe προφήτης.prophet. 24 ΚαὶAnd ἀπεσταλμένοιhaving been sent forth (ones) ἦσανwere ἐκout of τῶνthe Φαρισαίων.Pharisees. 25 καὶAnd ἠρώτησανthey questioned αὐτὸνhim καὶand εἶπανsaid αὐτῷto him ΤίWhy οὖνtherefore βαπτίζειςare you baptizing εἰif σὺyou οὐκnot εἶare ὁthe χριστὸςChristοὐδὲnor ἨλείαςElijah οὐδὲnor ὁThe προφήτης;Prophet? 26 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸωάνηςJohn λέγωνsaying ᾿ΕγὼI βαπτίζωam baptizing ἐνin ὕδατι·water; μέσοςmiddle ὑμῶνof you στήκει(one) is standing ὃνwhom ὑμεῖςyou οὐκnot οἴδατε,have known, 27 ὀπίσωbehind μουme ἐρχόμενος,coming (one), οὗof whom οὐκnot εἰμὶam ἐγὼI ἄξιοςworthy ἵναin order that λύσωI might loose αὐτοῦof him τὸνthe ἱμάνταlace τοῦof the ὑποδήματος.sandal. 28 ΤαῦταThese (things) ἐνin ΒηθανίᾳBethany ἐγένετοoccurred πέρανother side τοῦof the Ἰορδάνου,Jordan, ὅπουwhere ἦνwas ὁthe ἸωάνηςJohn βαπτίζων.baptizing.

29 ΤῇTo the ἐπαύριονmorrow βλέπειhe is looking at τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus ἐρχόμενονcoming πρὸςtoward αὐτόν,him, καὶand λέγειhe is saying ἼδεSee ὁthe ἀμνὸςLamb τοῦof the θεοῦGod ὁthe (one) αἴρωνlifting up τὴνthe ἁμαρτίανsin τοῦof the κόσμου.world. 30 οὗτόςThis (one) ἐστινis ὑπὲρover οὗwhom ἐγὼI εἶπονsaid ὈπίσωBehind μουme ἔρχεταιis coming ἀνὴρmale person ὃςwho ἔμπροσθένin front μουof me γέγονεν,has come to be, ὅτιbecause πρῶτόςfirst μουof me ἦν·he was; 31 κἀγὼand I οὐκnot ᾔδεινhad known αὐτόν,him, ἀλλ’but ἵναin order that φανερωθῇhe might be manifested τῷto the ἸσραὴλIsrael διὰthrough τοῦτοthis (thing) ἦλθονcame ἐγὼI ἐνin ὕδατιwater βαπτίζων.baptizing. 32 ΚαὶAnd ἐμαρτύρησενwitnessed ἸωάνηςJohn λέγωνsaying ὅτιthat ΤεθέαμαιI have viewed τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit καταβαῖνονdescending ὡςas περιστερὰνdove ἐξout of οὐρανοῦ,heaven, καὶand ἔμεινενit remained ἐπ’upon αὐτόν·him; 33 κἀγὼand I οὐκnot ᾔδεινhad known αὐτόν,him, ἀλλ’but ὁthe (one) πέμψαςhaving sent μεme βαπτίζεινto be baptizing ἐνin ὕδατιwater ἐκεῖνόςthat (one) μοιto me εἶπενsaid ᾿Εφ’Upon ὃνwhom ἂνlikely ἴδῃςyou might see τὸthe πνεῦμαspirit καταβαῖνονdescending καὶand μένονremaining ἐπ’upon αὐτόν,him, οὗτόςthis (one) ἐστινis ὁthe (one) βαπτίζωνbaptizing ἐνin πνεύματιspirit ἁγίῳ·holy; 34 κἀγὼand I ἑώρακα,have seen, καὶand μεμαρτύρηκαI have borne witness ὅτιthat οὗτόςthis (one) ἐστινis ὁthe υἱὸςSon τοῦof the θεοῦ.God.

35 ΤῇTo the ἐπαύριονmorrow πάλινagain ἱστήκειhad stood ἸωάνηςJohn καὶand ἐκout of τῶνthe μαθητῶνdisciples αὐτοῦof him δύο,two, 36 καὶand ἐμβλέψαςhaving looked on τῷto the ἸησοῦJesus περιπατοῦντιwalking about λέγειhe is saying ἼδεSee ὁthe ἀμνὸςLamb τοῦof the θεοῦ.God. 37 καὶAnd ἤκουσανheard οἱthe δύοtwo μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him λαλοῦντοςspeaking καὶand ἠκολούθησανthey followed τῷto the Ἰησοῦ.Jesus. 38 στραφεὶςHaving turned δὲbut ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand θεασάμενοςhaving viewed αὐτοὺςthem ἀκολουθοῦνταςfollowing λέγειhe is saying αὐτοῖςto them ΤίWhat ζητεῖτε;are seeking you? οἱThe (ones) δὲbut εἶπανsaid αὐτῷto him Ῥαββεί,Rabbi, ὃwhich λέγεταιis being said μεθερμηνευόμενονbeing translated Διδάσκαλε,Teacher, ποῦwhere μένεις;are you remaining? 39 λέγειHe is saying αὐτοῖςto them ἜρχεσθεBe you coming καὶand ὄψεσθε.you will see. ἦλθανThey came οὖνtherefore καὶand εἶδανsawποῦwhere μένει,he is remaining, καὶand παρ’beside αὐτῷhim ἔμεινανthey remained τὴνthe ἡμέρανday ἐκείνην·that; ὥραhour ἦνwas ὡςas δεκάτη.tenth. 40῏ΗνWas ᾿ΑνδρέαςAndrew ὁthe ἀδελφὸςbrother Σίμωνοςof Simon ΠέτρουPeter εἷςone ἐκout of τῶνthe δύοtwo τῶνthe (ones) ἀκουσάντωνhaving heard παρὰbeside Ἰωάνουof John καὶand ἀκολουθησάντωνhaving followed αὐτῷ·to him; 41 εὑρίσκειhe is finding οὗτοςthis (one) πρῶτονfirst τὸνthe ἀδελφὸνbrother τὸνthe ἴδιονown ΣίμωναSimon καὶand λέγειhe is saying αὐτῷto him ΕὑρήκαμενWe have found τὸνthe ΜεσσίανMessiah ὅwhich ἐστινis μεθερμηνευόμενονbeing translated Χριστός.Christ. 42 ἤγαγενHe led αὐτὸνhim πρὸςtoward τὸνthe Ἰησοῦν.Jesus. ἐμβλέψαςHaving looked on αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus εἶπενsaid ΣὺYou εἶare ΣίμωνSimon ὁthe υἱὸςson Ἰωάνου,of John, σὺyou κληθήσῃwill be called ΚηφᾶςCephas ὃwhich ἑρμηνεύεταιis being translated Πέτρος.Peter.

CHAPTER 2♠

1 ΚαὶAnd τῇto the ἡμέρᾳday τῇthe τρίτῃthird γάμοςmarriage ἐγένετοoccurred ἐνin ΚανὰCana τῆςof the Γαλιλαίας,Galilee, καὶand ἦνwas ἡthe μήτηρmother τοῦof the ἸησοῦJesus ἐκεῖ·there; 2 ἐκλήθηwas called δὲbut καὶalso ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him εἰςinto τὸνthe γάμον.marriage.

3 καὶAnd ὑστερήσαντοςhaving become lacking οἴνουof wine λέγειis saying ἡthe μήτηρmother τοῦof the ἸησοῦJesus πρὸςtoward αὐτόνhim ΟἶνονWine οὐκnot ἔχουσιν.they are having. 4 καὶAnd λέγειis saying αὐτῇto her ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ΤίWhat ἐμοὶto me καὶand σοί,to you, γύναι;woman? οὔπωNot yet ἥκειis arriving ἡthe ὥραhour μου.of me. 5 λέγειIs saying ἡthe μήτηρmother αὐτοῦof him τοῖςto the διακόνοιςservants ὍτιWhat ἂνlikely λέγῃhe may be saying ὑμῖνto you ποιήσατε.do you. 6 ἦσανWere δὲbut ἐκεῖthere λίθιναιof stone ὑδρίαιwater jars ἓξsix κατὰaccording to τὸνthe καθαρισμὸνpurification τῶνof the ἸουδαίωνJews κείμεναι,lying, χωροῦσαιhaving place for ἀνὰup μετρητὰςmeasures δύοtwo ἢor τρεῖς.three. 7 λέγειIs saying αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ΓεμίσατεFill you τὰςthe ὑδρίαςwater jars ὕδατος·of water; καὶand ἐγέμισανthey filled αὐτὰςthem ἕωςuntil ἄνω.upper part. 8 καὶAnd λέγειhe is saying αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΑντλήσατεDraw you out νῦνnow καὶand φέρετεbe you bringing τῷto the ἀρχιτρικλίνῳ·governor of the dining room; οἱthe (ones) δὲbut ἤνεγκαν.brought. 9 ὡςAs δὲbut ἐγεύσατοtasted ὁtheἀρχιτρίκλινοςgovernor of the dining room τὸthe ὕδωρwater οἶνονwine γεγενημένον,having become, καὶand οὐκnot ᾔδειhe had known πόθενwherefrom ἐστίν,it is, οἱthe δὲbut διάκονοιservants ᾔδεισανhad known οἱthe (ones) ἠντληκότεςhaving drawn out τὸthe ὕδωρ,water, φωνεῖhe is sounding to τὸνthe νυμφίονbridegroom ὁthe ἀρχιτρίκλινοςgovernor of the dining room 10 καὶand λέγειis saying αὐτῷto him ΠᾶςEvery ἄνθρωποςman πρῶτονfirst τὸνthe καλὸνfine οἶνονwine τίθησιν,is placing, καὶand ὅτανwhenever μεθυσθῶσινthey might become drunk τὸνthe ἐλάσσω·inferior; σὺyou τετήρηκαςhave kept τὸνthe καλὸνfine οἶνονwine ἕωςuntil ἄρτι.right now. 11 ΤαύτηνThis ἐποίησενdid ἀρχὴνbeginning τῶνof the σημείωνsigns ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ἐνin ΚανὰCana τῆςof the ΓαλιλαίαςGalilee καὶand ἐφανέρωσενhe manifested τὴνthe δόξανglory αὐτοῦ,of him, καὶand ἐπίστευσανbelieved εἰςinto αὐτὸνhim οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦ.of him.

12 ΜετὰAfter τοῦτοthis κατέβηhe went down εἰςinto ΚαφαρναοὺμCapernaum αὐτὸςhe καὶand ἡthe μήτηρmother αὐτοῦof him καὶand οἱthe ἀδελφοὶbrothers καὶand οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦ,of him, καὶand ἐκεῖthere ἔμεινανthey remained οὐnot πολλὰςmany ἡμέρας.days.

13 ΚαὶAnd ἐγγὺςnear ἦνwas τὸthe πάσχαpassover τῶνof the Ἰουδαίων,Jews, καὶand ἀνέβηwent up εἰςinto ἸεροσόλυμαJerusalem ὁthe Ἰησοῦς.Jesus. 14καὶAnd εὗρενhe found ἐνin τῷthe ἱερῷtemple τοὺςthe (ones) πωλοῦνταςselling βόαςcattle καὶand πρόβαταsheep καὶand περιστερὰςdoves καὶand τοὺςthe κερματιστὰςcoin dealers καθημένους,sitting, 15 καὶand ποιήσαςhaving made φραγέλλιονwhip ἐκout of σχοινίωνropes πάνταςall (them) ἐξέβαλενhe ejected ἐκout of τοῦthe ἱεροῦtemple τάthe τεand πρόβαταsheep καὶand τοὺςthe βόας,cattle, καὶand τῶνof the κολλυβιστῶνmoney changers ἐξέχεενhe poured out τὰthe κέρματαcoins καὶand τὰςthe τραπέζαςtables ἀνέτρεψεν,he overturned, 16 καὶand τοῖςto the (ones) τὰςthe περιστερὰςdoves πωλοῦσινselling εἶπενhe said ἌρατεLift you up ταῦταthese (things) ἐντεῦθεν,from here, μὴnot ποιεῖτεbe you making τὸνthe οἶκονhouse τοῦof the πατρόςFather μουof me οἶκονhouse ἐμπορίου.of merchandise. 17 ᾿ΕμνήσθησανCalled to mind οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him ὅτιthat γεγραμμένονhaving been written ἐστίνit is ὉThe ζῆλοςzeal τοῦof the οἴκουhouse σουof you καταφάγεταίwill eat down με.me.

18 ᾿ΑπεκρίθησανAnswered οὖνtherefore οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews καὶand εἶπανsaid αὐτῷto him ΤίWhat σημεῖονsign δεικνύειςare you showing ἡμῖν,to us, ὅτιbecause ταῦταthese (things) ποιεῖς;you are doing? 19 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εἶπενsaid αὐτοῖςto them ΛύσατεLoose you τὸνthe ναὸνdivine habitation τοῦτονthis καὶand ἐνin τρισὶνthree ἡμέραιςdays ἐγερῶI shall raise up αὐτόν.it. 20 εἶπανSaid οὖνtherefore οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews ΤεσσεράκονταForty καὶand ἓξsix ἔτεσινto years οἰκοδομήθηwas built ὁthe ναὸςdivine habitation οὗτος,this, καὶand σὺyou ἐνin τρισὶνthree ἡμέραιςdays ἐγερεῖςwill raise up αὐτόν;it? 21 ἐκεῖνοςThat (One) δὲbut ἔλεγενwas saying περὶabout τοῦthe ναοῦdivine habitation τοῦof the σώματοςbody αὐτοῦ.of him. 22 ὍτεWhen οὖνtherefore ἠγέρθηhe was raised up ἐκout of νεκρῶν,dead (ones), ἐμνήσθησανcalled to mind οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him ὅτιthat τοῦτοthis (thing) ἔλεγεν,he was saying, καὶand ἐπίστευσανthey believed τῇthe γραφῇScripture καὶand τῷto the λόγῳword ὃνwhich εἶπενsaid ὁthe Ἰησοῦς.Jesus.

23 ὩςAs δὲbut ἦνhe was ἐνin τοῖςthe ἸεροσολύμοιςJerusalem ἐνin τῷthe πάσχαpassover ἐνin τῇthe ἑορτῇ,festival, πολλοὶmany ἐπίστευσανbelieved εἰςinto τὸthe ὄνομαname αὐτοῦ,of him, θεωροῦντεςbeholding αὐτοῦof him τὰthe σημεῖαsigns ἃwhich ἐποίει·he was doing; 24 αὐτὸςhe δὲbut ἸησοῦςJesus οὐκnot ἐπίστευενwas entrusting αὑτὸνhimself αὐτοῖςto them διὰthrough τὸthe αὐτὸνhim γινώσκεινto be knowing πάνταςall (them) 25 καὶand ὅτιbecause οὐnot χρείανneed εἶχενhe was having ἵναin order that τιςanyone μαρτυρήσῃshould bear witness περὶabout τοῦthe ἀνθρώπου,man, αὐτὸςhe γὰρfor ἐγίνωσκενwas knowing τίwhat ἦνwas ἐνin τῷthe ἀνθρώπῳ.man.

CHAPTER 3♠

1 ῏ΗνWas δὲbut ἄνθρωποςman ἐκout of τῶνthe Φαρισαίων,Pharisees, ΝικόδημοςNicodemus ὄνομαname αὐτῷ,to him, ἄρχωνruler τῶνof the Ἰουδαίων·Jews; 2 οὗτοςthis (one) ἦλθενcame πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim νυκτὸςof night καὶand εἶπενhe said αὐτῷto him Ῥαββεί,Rabbi, οἴδαμενwe have known ὅτιthat ἀπὸfrom θεοῦGod ἐλήλυθαςyou have come διδάσκαλος·teacher; οὐδεὶςno one γὰρfor δύναταιis able ταῦταthese τὰthe σημεῖαsigns ποιεῖνto be doing ἃwhich σὺyou ποιεῖς,are doing, ἐὰνif ever μὴnot ᾖmay be ὁthe θεὸςGod μετ’with αὐτοῦ.him. 3 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εἶπενsaid αὐτῷto him ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying σοι,to you, ἐὰνIf ever μήnot τιςanyone γεννηθῇmight be born ἄνωθεν,from above, οὐnot δύναταιhe is able ἰδεῖνto see τὴνthe βασιλείανkingdom τοῦof the θεοῦ.God. 4 λέγειIs saying πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim ὁthe ΝικόδημοςNicodemus ΠῶςHow δύναταιis able ἄνθρωποςman γεννηθῆναιto be born γέρωνold ὤν;being? μὴNot δύναταιhe is able εἰςinto τὴνthe κοιλίανcavity τῆςof the μητρὸςmother αὐτοῦof him δεύτερονsecond [time] εἰσελθεῖνto enter καὶand γεννηθῆναι;to be born? 5 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying σοι,to you, ἐὰνIf ever μήnot τιςanyone γεννηθῇmight be born ἐξout of ὕδατοςwater καὶand πνεύματος,spirit, οὐnot δύναταιhe is able εἰσελθεῖνto enter εἰςinto τὴνthe βασιλείανkingdomτοῦof the θεοῦ.God. 6 τὸThe γεγεννημένονone having been born ἐκout of τῆςthe σαρκὸςflesh σάρξflesh ἐστιν,is, καὶand τὸthe γεγεννημένονone having been born ἐκout of τοῦthe πνεύματοςspirit πνεῦμάspirit ἐστιν.is. 7 μὴNot θαυμάσῃςyou should wonder ὅτιbecause εἶπόνI said σοιto you ΔεῖIt is necessary ὑμᾶςyou γεννηθῆναιto be born ἄνωθεν.from above. 8 τὸThe πνεῦμαspirit ὅπουwhere θέλειit is willing πνεῖ,is blowing, καὶand τὴνthe φωνὴνsound αὐτοῦof it ἀκούεις,you are hearing, ἀλλ’but οὐκnot οἶδαςyou have known πόθενwherefrom ἔρχεταιit is coming καὶand ποῦwhere ὑπάγει·it is going under; οὕτωςthus ἐστὶνis πᾶςeveryone ὁthe γεγεννημένοςone having been born ἐκout of τοῦthe πνεύματος.spirit.

9 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ΝικόδημοςNicodemus καὶand εἶπενhe said αὐτῷto him ΠῶςHow δύναταιis able ταῦταthese (things) γενέσθαι;to occur? 10 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εἶπενsaid αὐτῷto him ΣὺYou εἶare ὁthe διδάσκαλοςteacher τοῦof the ἸσραὴλIsrael καὶand ταῦταthese (things) οὐnot γινώσκεις;you are knowing? 11 ἀμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying σοιto you ὅτιthat ὃwhich οἴδαμενwe have known λαλοῦμενwe are speaking καὶand ὃwhichἑωράκαμενwe have seen μαρτυροῦμεν,we are bearing witness of, καὶand τὴνthe μαρτυρίανwitness ἡμῶνof us οὐnot λαμβάνετε.you are receiving. 12 εἰIf τὰthe ἐπίγειαearthly (things) εἶπονI said ὑμῖνto you καὶand οὐnot πιστεύετε,you are believing, πῶςhow ἐὰνif ever εἴπωI should say ὑμῖνto you τὰthe ἐπουράνιαheavenly (things) πιστεύσετε;you will believe? 13 καὶAnd οὐδεὶςno one ἀναβέβηκενhas ascended εἰςinto τὸνthe οὐρανὸνheaven εἰif μὴnot ὁthe (one) ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven καταβάς,having descended, ὁthe υἱὸςSon τοῦof the ἀνθρώπου.man.
14 καὶAnd καθὼςaccording as ΜωυσῆςMoses ὕψωσενput high up τὸνthe ὄφινserpent ἐνin τῇthe ἐρήμῳ,desolate [place], οὕτωςthus ὑψωθῆναιto be put on high up δεῖit is necessary τὸνthe υἱὸνSon τοῦof theἀνθρώπου,man, 15 ἵναin order that πᾶςeveryone ὁ the πιστεύωνbelieving ἐνin αὐτῷhim ἔχῃmay have ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον.eternal.

16 ΟὕτωςThus γὰρfor ἠγάπησενloved ὁthe θεὸςGod τὸνthe κόσμονworld ὥστεas-and τὸνthe υἱὸνSon τὸνthe μονογενῆonly-begotten ἔδωκεν,he gave, ἵναin order that πᾶςeveryone ὁthe πιστεύωνbelieving εἰςinto αὐτὸνhim μὴnot ἀπόληταιmight be destroyed ἀλλὰbut ἔχῃmay have ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον.everlasting. 17 οὐNot γὰρfor ἀπέστειλενsent forth ὁthe θεὸςGod τὸνthe υἱὸνSon εἰςinto τὸνthe κόσμονworld ἵναin order that κρίνῃhe should judgeτὸνthe κόσμον,world, ἀλλ’but ἵναin order that σωθῇshould be saved ὁthe κόσμοςworld, δι’through αὐτοῦ.him. 18 ὁThe (one) πιστεύωνbelieving εἰςinto αὐτὸνhim οὐnot κρίνεται.is being judged. ὁThe (one) μὴnot πιστεύωνbelieving ἤδηalready κέκριται,has been judged, ὅτιbecause μὴnot πεπίστευκενhe has believed εἰςinto τὸthe ὄνομαname τοῦof the μονογενοῦςonly-begotten υἱοῦSon τοῦof the θεοῦ.God. 19 αὕτηThis δέbut ἐστινis ἡthe κρίσιςjudgmentὅτιthat τὸthe φῶςlight ἐλήλυθενhas come εἰςinto τὸνthe κόσμονworld καὶand ἠγάπησανloved οἱthe ἄνθρωποιmen μᾶλλονrather τὸthe σκότοςdarkness ἢthan τὸthe φῶς,light, ἦνwas γὰρfor αὐτῶνof them πονηρὰwicked τὰthe ἔργα.works. 20 πᾶςEveryone γὰρfor ὁthe (one) φαῦλαvile (things) πράσσωνpracticing μισεῖis hating τὸthe φῶςlight καὶand οὐκnot ἔρχεταιhe is coming πρὸςtoward τὸthe φῶς,light, ἵναin order that μὴnot ἐλεγχθῇmight be reproved τὰthe ἔργαworks αὐτοῦ·of him; 21 ὁthe (one) δὲbut ποιῶνdoing τὴνthe ἀλήθειανtruth ἔρχεταιis coming πρὸςtoward τὸthe φῶς,light, ἵναin order that φανερωθῇshould be made manifest αὐτοῦof him τὰthe ἔργαworks ὅτιthat ἐνin θεῷGod ἐστὶνit is εἰργασμένα.having been worked.

22 ΜετὰAfter ταῦταthese (things) ἦλθενcame ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him εἰςinto τὴνthe ἸουδαίανJudean γῆν,earth, καὶand ἐκεῖthere διέτριβενhe was spending time μετ’with αὐτῶνthem καὶand ἐβάπτιζεν.he was baptizing. 23 ἦνWas δὲbut καὶalso ὁthe ἸωάνηςJohn βαπτίζωνbaptizing ἐνinΑἰνὼνAenon ἐγγὺςnear τοῦthe Σαλείμ,Salim, ὅτιbecause ὕδαταwaters πολλὰmany ἦνwas ἐκεῖ,there, καὶand παρεγίνοντοthey were coming to be alongside καὶand ἐβαπτίζοντο·they were being baptized;
24 οὔπωnot yet γὰρfor ἦνwas βεβλημένοςhaving been thrown εἰςinto τὴνthe φυλακὴνprison Ἰωάνης.John.

25 ᾿ΕγένετοOccurred οὖνtherefore ζήτησιςseeking ἐκout of τῶνthe μαθητῶνdisciples Ἰωάνουof John μετὰwith ἸουδαίουJew περὶabout καθαρισμοῦ.purification. 26 καὶAnd ἦλθανthey came πρὸςtoward τὸνthe ἸωάνηνJohn καὶand εἶπανsaid αὐτῷto him Ῥαββεί,Rabbi, ὃςwho ἦνwas μετὰwith σοῦyou πέρανother side τοῦof the Ἰορδάνου,Jordan, ᾧto whom σὺyou μεμαρτύρηκας,have borne witness, ἴδεsee οὗτοςthis (one) βαπτίζειis baptizing καὶand πάντεςall (they) ἔρχονταιare coming πρὸςtoward αὐτόν.him. 27 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸωάνηςJohn καὶand εἶπενsaid ΟὐNot δύναταιis able ἄνθρωποςman λαμβάνεινto be receivingοὐδὲνnothing ἐὰνif ever μὴnot ᾖit may be δεδομένονhaving been given αὐτῷto him ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦ.heaven. 28 αὐτοὶVery (ones) ὑμεῖςyou μοιto me μαρτυρεῖτεyou are bearing witness ὅτιthat εἶπονsaid ἐγώI ΟὐκNot εἰμὶam ἐγὼI ὁthe χριστός,Christ, ἀλλ’but ὅτιthat ᾿ΑπεσταλμένοςHaving been sent forth εἰμὶI am ἔμπροσθενin front ἐκείνου.of that (one). 29 ὁThe (one) ἔχωνhaving τὴνthe νύμφηνbride νυμφίοςbridegroom ἐστίν·is; ὁthe δὲbut φίλοςfriend τοῦof theνυμφίου,bridegroom, ὁthe (one) ἑστηκὼςhaving stood καὶand ἀκούωνhearing αὐτοῦ,of him, χαρᾷto joy χαίρειhe is rejoicing διὰthrough τὴνthe φωνὴνvoice τοῦof the νυμφίου.bridegroom. αὕτηThis οὖνtherefore ἡthe χαρὰjoy ἡthe ἐμὴmine πεπλήρωται.has been fulfilled. 30 ἐκεῖνονThat (one) δεῖit is necessary αὐξάνειν,to be increasing, ἐμὲme δὲbut ἐλαττοῦσθαι.to be decreasing.

31 ὉThe (one) ἄνωθενfrom above ἐρχόμενοςcoming ἐπάνωup above πάντωνall (ones) ἐστίν.is. ὁThe (one) ὢνbeing ἐκout of τῆςthe γῆςearth ἐκout ofτῆςthe γῆςearth ἐστὶνis καὶand ἐκout of τῆςthe γῆςearth λαλεῖ·he is speaking; ὁthe (one) ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven ἐρχόμενοςcoming ἐπάνωup aboveπάντωνall (ones) ἐστίν·is; 32 ὃwhich ἑώρακενhe has seen καὶand ἤκουσενhe heard τοῦτοthis μαρτυρεῖ,he is bearing witness of, καὶand τὴνthe μαρτυρίανwitness αὐτοῦof him οὐδεὶςno one λαμβάνει.is receiving. 33 ὁThe (one) λαβὼνhaving received αὐτοῦof him τὴνthe μαρτυρίανwitness ἐσφράγισενsealed ὅτιthat ὁthe θεὸςGod ἀληθήςtrue ἐστιν.is. 34 ὃνWhom γὰρfor ἀπέστειλενsent forth ὁthe θεὸςGod τὰthe ῥήματαsayings τοῦof the θεοῦGod λαλεῖ,is speaking, οὐnot γὰρfor ἐκout of μέτρουmeasure δίδωσινhe is giving τὸthe πνεῦμα.spirit. 35 ὁThe πατὴρFather ἀγαπᾷis loving τὸνthe υἱόν,Son, καὶand πάνταall (things) δέδωκενhas given ἐνin τῇthe χειρὶhand αὐτοῦ.of him. 36 ὁThe (one) πιστεύωνbelieving εἰςinto τὸνthe υἱὸνSon ἔχειis having ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον·everlasting; ὁthe (one) δὲbut ἀπειθῶνdisobeying τῷto the υἱῷSon οὐκnot ὄψεταιwill see ζωήν,life, ἀλλ’but ἡthe ὀργὴwrath τοῦof the θεοῦGod μένειis remaining ἐπ’upon αὐτόν.him.

1ὩςAs οὖνtherefore ἔγνωknew ὁthe κύριοςLord ὅτιthat ἤκουσανheard οἱthe ΦαρισαῖοιPharisees ὅτιthat ἸησοῦςJesus πλείοναςmore μαθητὰςdisciples ποιεῖis making καὶand βαπτίζειis baptizing ἢthan Ἰωάνης,—John,— 2 καίτοιγεalthough indeed ἸησοῦςJesus αὐτὸςhe οὐκnot ἐβάπτιζενwas baptizing ἀλλ’but οἱtheμαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦ,—of him,— 3 ἀφῆκενhe let go off τὴνthe ἸουδαίανJudea καὶand ἀπῆλθενhe went away πάλινagain εἰςinto τὴνthe Γαλιλαίαν.Galilee. 4 ἜδειIt was necessary δὲbut αὐτὸνhim διέρχεσθαιto be traversing διὰthrough τῆςthe Σαμαρίας.Samaria. 5 ἔρχεταιHe is coming οὖνtherefore εἰςinto πόλινcity τῆςof the ΣαμαρίαςSamaria λεγομένηνbeing said ΣυχὰρSychar πλησίονnear τοῦthe χωρίουpiece of ground ὃwhich ἔδωκενgave ἸακὼβJacob τῷto ἸωσὴφJoseph τῷto the υἱῷson αὐτοῦ·of him; 6 ἦνwas δὲbut ἐκεῖthere πηγὴfountain τοῦof the Ἰακώβ.Jacob. ὁThe οὖνtherefore ἸησοῦςJesus κεκοπιακὼςhaving labored ἐκout of τῆςthe ὁδοιπορίαςjourney ἐκαθέζετοwas sitting οὕτωςthus ἐπὶupon τῇthe πηγῇ·fountain; ὥραhour ἦνwas ὡςas ἕκτη.sixth.

27 ΚαὶAnd ἐπὶupon τούτῳthis [time] ἦλθανcame οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦ,of him, καὶand ἐθαύμαζονthey were wondering ὅτιbecause μετὰwith γυναικὸςwoman ἐλάλει·he was speaking; οὐδεὶςno one μέντοιof course εἶπενsaid ΤίWhat ζητεῖς;are you seeking? ἤor ΤίWhy λαλεῖςare you speaking μετ’with αὐτῆς;her? 28 ἀφῆκενLet go off οὖνtherefore τὴνthe ὑδρίανwater jar αὐτῆςof her ἡthe γυνὴwoman καὶand ἀπῆλθενwent away εἰςinto τὴνthe πόλινcity καὶand λέγειis saying τοῖςto the ἀνθρώποιςmen 29 ΔεῦτεHither ἴδετεsee you ἄνθρωπονman ὃςwho εἶπέsaid μοιto me πάνταall (things) ἃwhich ἐποίησα·I did; μήτιnot what οὗτόςthis ἐστινis ὁthe χριστός;Christ? 30 ἐξῆλθονThey came forth ἐκout of τῆςthe πόλεωςcity καὶand ἤρχοντοthey were coming πρὸςtoward αὐτόν.him. 31 ᾿ΕνIn τῷthe μεταξὺbetween ἠρώτωνwere requesting αὐτὸνhim οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples λέγοντεςsaying Ῥαββεί,Rabbi, φάγε.eat. 32 ὁThe (one) δὲbut εἶπενsaid αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΕγὼI βρῶσινfood ἔχωam having φαγεῖνto eat ἣνwhich ὑμεῖςyou οὐκnot οἴδατε.have known. 33 ἔλεγονWere saying οὖνtherefore οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples πρὸςtoward ἀλλήλουςone another ΜήNot τιςanyone ἤνεγκενbrought αὐτῷto him φαγεῖν;to eat? 34 λέγειIs saying αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΕμὸνMy βρῶμάfood ἐστινis ἵναin order that ποιήσωI should do τὸthe θέλημαwill τοῦof the (one) πέμψαντόςhaving sent μεme καὶand τελειώσωI should finish αὐτοῦof him τὸthe ἔργον.work. 35 οὐχNot ὑμεῖςyou λέγετεare saying ὅτιthat ἜτιYet τετράμηνόςfour months ἐστινit is καὶand ὁthe θερισμὸςharvest ἔρχεται;is coming? ἰδοὺLook! λέγωI am saying ὑμῖν,to you, ἐπάρατεlift you up τοὺςthe ὀφθαλμοὺςeyes ὑμῶνof you καὶand θεάσασθεview you τὰςthe χώραςfields ὅτιthat λευκαίwhite εἰσινthey are πρὸςtoward θερισμόν·harvest; ἤδηalready 36 ὁthe (one) θερίζωνharvesting μισθὸνreward λαμβάνειis receiving καὶand συνάγειis leading together καρπὸνfruit εἰςinto ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον,everlasting, ἵναin order that ὁthe (one) σπείρωνsowing ὁμοῦtogether χαίρῃmay rejoice καὶalso ὁthe (one) θερίζων.harvesting. 37 ἐνIn γὰρfor τούτῳthis (thing) ὁthe λόγοςword ἐστὶνis ἀληθινὸςtrue ὅτιthat ἄλλοςanother ἐστὶνis ὁthe (one) σπείρωνsowing καὶand ἄλλοςanother ὁthe (one) θερίζων·harvesting; 38 ἐγὼI ἀπέστειλαsent off ὑμᾶςyou θερίζεινto be harvesting ὃwhich οὐχnot ὑμεῖςyou κεκοπιάκατε·have labored; ἄλλοιothers κεκοπιάκασιν,have labored, καὶand ὑμεῖςyou εἰςinto τὸνthe κόπονlabor αὐτῶνof them εἰσεληλύθατε.you have entered.

39 ᾿ΕκOut of δὲbut τῆςof the πόλεωςcity ἐκείνηςthat πολλοὶmany ἐπίστευσανbelieved εἰςinto αὐτὸνhim τῶνof the ΣαμαρειτῶνSamaritans διὰthrough τὸνthe λόγονword τῆςof the γυναικὸςwoman μαρτυρούσηςbearing witness ὅτιthat ΕἶπένHe said μοιto me πάνταall (things) ἃwhich ἐποίησα.I did. 40ὡςAs οὖνtherefore ἦλθονcame πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim οἱthe Σαμαρεῖται,Samaritans, ἠρώτωνwere requesting αὐτὸνhim μεῖναιto remain παρ’beside αὐτοῖς·them; καὶand ἔμεινενhe remained ἐκεῖthere δύοtwo ἡμέρας.days. 41 καὶAnd πολλῷto much πλείουςmore (ones) ἐπίστευσανbelieved διὰthrough τὸνthe λόγονword αὐτοῦ,of him, 42 τῇto the τεand γυναικὶwoman ἔλεγονthey were saying ὅτιthat ΟὐκέτιNot yet διὰthrough τὴνthe σὴνyour λαλιὰνspeech πιστεύομεν·we are believing; αὐτοὶvery γὰρfor ἀκηκόαμεν,we have heard, καὶand οἴδαμενwe have known ὅτιthat οὗτόςthis (one) ἐστινis ἀληθῶςtruly ὁthe σωτὴρsavior τοῦof the κόσμου.world.

43 ΜετὰAfter δὲbut τὰςthe δύοtwo ἡμέραςdays ἐξῆλθενhe went out ἐκεῖθενfrom there εἰςinto τὴνthe Γαλιλαίαν·Galilee; 44 αὐτὸςhe γὰρfor ἸησοῦςJesus ἐμαρτύρησενbore witness ὅτιthat προφήτηςprophet ἐνin τῇthe ἰδίᾳown πατρίδιfather (place) τιμὴνhonor οὐκnot ἔχει.is having. 45 ὅτεWhen οὖνtherefore ἦλθενhe came εἰςinto τὴνthe Γαλιλαίαν,Galilee, ἐδέξαντοreceived αὐτὸνhim οἱthe Γαλιλαῖοι,Galileans, πάνταall (things) ἑωρακότεςhaving seen ὅσαas many (things) as ἐποίησενhe did ἐνin ἸεροσολύμοιςJerusalem ἐνin τῇthe ἑορτῇ,festival, καὶand αὐτοὶthey γὰρfor ἦλθονcame εἰςinto τὴνthe ἑορτήν.festival.

46 ῏ΗλθενHe came οὖνtherefore πάλινagain εἰςinto τὴνthe ΚανὰCana τῆςof the Γαλιλαίας,Galilee, ὅπουwhere ἐποίησενhe made τὸthe ὕδωρwater οἶνον.wine. ΚαὶAnd ἦνwas τιςsome βασιλικὸςroyal [man] οὗof whom ὁthe υἱὸςson ἠσθένειwas sick ἐνin Καφαρναούμ·Capernaum; 47 οὗτοςthis (one) ἀκούσαςhaving heard ὅτιthat ἸησοῦςJesus ἥκειis arriving ἐκout of τῆςthe ἸουδαίαςJudea εἰςinto τὴνthe ΓαλιλαίανGalilee ἀπῆλθενwent off πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim καὶand ἠρώταwas requestingἵναin order that καταβῇhe should come down καὶand ἰάσηταιhe should heal αὐτοῦof him τὸνthe υἱόν,son, ἤμελλενhe was about γὰρfor ἀποθνήσκειν.to be dying.48 εἶπενSaid οὖνtherefore ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus πρὸςtoward αὐτόνhim ᾿ΕὰνIf ever μὴnot σημεῖαsigns καὶand τέραταportents ἴδητε,you should see, οὐnot μὴnot πιστεύσητε.you would believe. 49 λέγειIs saying πρὸςtoward αὐτὸνhim ὁthe βασιλικόςroyal [man] Κύριε,Lord, κατάβηθιcome down πρὶνbefore ἀποθανεῖνto die τὸthe παιδίονlittle boy μου.of me. 50 λέγειIs saying αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus Πορεύου·Be going; ὁthe υἱόςson σουof you ζῇ.is living. ἐπίστευσενBelieved ὁthe ἄνθρωποςman τῷto the λόγῳword ὃνwhich εἶπενsaid αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand ἐπορεύετο.he was going. 51 ἤδηAlready δὲbut αὐτοῦof him καταβαίνοντοςgoing down οἱthe δοῦλοιslaves αὐτοῦof him ὑπήντησανmet αὐτῷhim λέγοντεςsaying ὅτιthat ὁthe παῖςboy αὐτοῦof him ζῇ.is living. 52 ἐπύθετοHe inquired οὖνtherefore τὴνthe ὥρανhour παρ’beside αὐτῶνof them ἐνin ᾗwhich κομψότερονmore trim ἔσχεν·he had; εἶπανthey said οὖνtherefore αὐτῷto himὅτιthat ᾿ΕχθὲςYesterday ὥρανhour ἑβδόμηνseventh ἀφῆκενlet go off αὐτὸνhim ὁthe πυρετός.fever. 53 ἔγνωKnew οὖνtherefore ὁthe πατὴρfather ὅτιthat ἐκείνῃto that τῇthe ὥρᾳhour ἐνin ᾗwhich εἶπενsaid αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ὉThe υἱόςson σουof you ζῇ,is living, καὶand ἐπίστευσενhe believed αὐτὸςhe καὶand ἡthe οἰκίαhousehold αὐτοῦof him ὅλη.whole. 54 ΤοῦτοThis δὲbut πάλινagain δεύτερονsecond σημεῖονsign ἐποίησενdid ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ἐλθὼνhaving come ἐκout of τῆςthe ἸουδαίαςJudea εἰςinto τὴνthe Γαλιλαίαν.Galilee.

5 ΜετὰAfter ταῦταthese (things) ἦνwas ἑορτὴfestival τῶνof the Ἰουδαίων,Jews, καὶand ἀνέβηwent up ἸησοῦςJesus εἰςinto Ἰεροσόλυμα.Jerusalem. 2 ἜστινIs δὲbut ἐνin τοῖςthe ἸεροσολύμοιςJerusalem ἐπὶupon τῇthe προβατικῇsheep [gate] κολυμβήθραpool ἡthe ἐπιλεγομένηbeing said upon ᾿Εβραϊστὶin Hebrew Βηθζαθά,Bethzatha, πέντεfive στοὰςcolonnades ἔχουσα·having; 3 ἐνin ταύταιςthese κατέκειτοwas lying down πλῆθοςmultitude τῶνof the (ones) ἀσθενούντων,being sick, τυφλῶν,of blind (ones), χωλῶν,of lame (ones), ξηρῶν.of withered (ones). 4 ———— 5 ἦνWas δέbut τιςsome ἄνθρωποςman ἐκεῖthere τριάκονταthirty καὶand ὀκτὼeight ἔτηyears ἔχωνhaving ἐνin τῇthe ἀσθενείᾳsickness αὐτοῦ·of him; 6 τοῦτονthis (one) ἰδὼνhaving seen ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus κατακείμενον,lying down, καὶand γνοὺςhaving known ὅτιthat πολὺνmuch ἤδηalready χρόνονtime ἔχει,he is having, λέγειhe is saying αὐτῷto him ΘέλειςAre you willing ὑγιὴςsound in health γενέσθαι;to become? 7 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἀσθενῶνbeing infirm (one) Κύριε,Lord, ἄνθρωπονman οὐκnot ἔχωI am having ἵναin order that ὅτανwhenever ταραχθῇshould be disturbed τὸthe ὕδωρwater βάλῃshould thrust μεme εἰςinto τὴνthe κολυμβήθραν·pool; ἐνin ᾧwhich [time] δὲbut ἔρχομαιam coming ἐγὼI ἄλλοςanother πρὸbefore ἐμοῦme καταβαίνει.is stepping down. 8 λέγειIs saying αὐτῷto him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ἜγειρεBe rising up ἆρονlift up τὸνthe κράβαττόνcot σουof you καὶand περιπάτει.be walking about. 9 καὶAnd εὐθέωςimmediately ἐγένετοbecame ὑγιὴςsound in health ὁthe ἄνθρωπος,man, καὶand ἦρεlifted up τὸνthe κράβαττονcot αὐτοῦof him καὶand περιεπάτει.was walking about.

῏ΗνWas δὲbut σάββατονsabbath ἐνin ἐκείνῃthat τῇthe ἡμέρᾳ.day. 10 ἔλεγονWere saying οὖνtherefore οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews τῷto the (one) τεθεραπευμένῳhaving been cured ΣάββατόνSabbath ἐστιν,it is, καὶand οὐκnot ἔξεστίνit is lawful σοιto you ἆραιto lift up τὸνthe κράβαττον.cot. 11 ὃςWho δὲbut ἀπεκρίθηanswered αὐτοῖςto them ὉThe (one) ποιήσαςhaving made μεme ὑγιῆsound in health ἐκεῖνόςthat (one) μοιto me εἶπενsaid ῏ΑρονLift up τὸνthe κράβαττόνcot σουof you καὶand περιπάτει.be walking about. 12 ἠρώτησανThey questioned αὐτόνhim ΤίςWho ἐστινis ὁthe ἄνθρωποςman ὁthe (one) εἰπώνhaving said σοιto you ῏ΑρονLift up καὶand περιπάτει;be walking about? 13 ὁThe (one) δὲbut ἰαθεὶςhaving been healed οὐκnot ᾔδειhad known τίςwho ἐστιν,it is, ὁthe γὰρfor ἸησοῦςJesus ἐξένευσενinclined out ὄχλουof crowd ὄντοςbeing ἐνin τῷthe τόπῳ.place.

14 ΜετὰAfter ταῦταthese (things) εὑρίσκειis finding αὐτὸνhim ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ἐνin τῷthe ἱερῷtemple καὶand εἶπενsaid αὐτῷto him ἼδεSee ὑγιὴςsound in health γέγονας·you have become μηκέτιnot yet ἁμάρτανε,be sinning, ἵναin order that μὴnot χεῖρόνworse σοίto you τιsomething γένηται.should happen. 15 ἀπῆλθενWent away ὁthe ἄνθρωποςman καὶand εἶπενsaid τοῖςto the ἸουδαίοιςJews ὅτιthat ἸησοῦςJesus ἐστὶνis ὁthe (one) ποιήσαςhaving made αὐτὸνhim ὑγιῆ.sound in health. 16 καὶAnd διὰthrough τοῦτοthis ἐδίωκονwere persecuting οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus ὅτιbecause ταῦταthese (things) ἐποίειhe was doing ἐνin σαββάτῳ.sabbath. 17 ὁThe (one) δὲbut ἀπεκρίνατοanswered αὐτοῖςto them ὉThe πατήρFather μουof me ἕωςuntil ἄρτιright now ἐργάζεται,is working, κἀγὼand I ἐργάζομαι.am working. 18 διὰThrough τοῦτοthis οὖνtherefore μᾶλλονrather ἐζήτουνwere seeking αὐτὸνhim οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews ἀποκτεῖναιto kill ὅτιbecause οὐnot μόνονonly ἔλυεwas loosing τὸthe σάββατονsabbath ἀλλὰbut καὶalso πατέραFather ἴδιονown ἔλεγεhe was saying τὸνthe θεόν,God, ἴσονequal ἑαυτὸνhimself ποιῶνmaking τῷto the θεῷ.God.

19 ᾿ΑπεκρίνατοAnswered οὖνtherefore ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand ἔλεγενwas saying αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying ὑμῖν,to you, οὐnot δύναταιis able ὁthe υἱὸςSon ποιεῖνto be doing ἀφ’from ἑαυτοῦhimself οὐδὲνnothing ἂν[if] ever μήnot τιsomething βλέπῃhe may see τὸνthe πατέραFather ποιοῦντα·doing; ἃwhat (things) γὰρfor ἂνlikely ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) ποιῇ,may do, ταῦταthese (things) καὶalso ὁthe υἱὸςSon ὁμοίωςlikewise ποιεῖ.is doing. 20 ὁThe γὰρfor πατὴρFather φιλεῖis having affection for τὸνthe υἱὸνSon καὶand πάνταall (things) δείκνυσινhe is showing αὐτῷto him ἃwhich αὐτὸςhe ποιεῖ,is doing, καὶand μείζοναgreater τούτωνof these δείξειhe will show αὐτῷto him ἔργα,works, ἵναin order that ὑμεῖςyou θαυμάζητε.may wonder. 21 ὥσπερAs-even γὰρfor ὁthe πατὴρFather ἐγείρειis raising up τοὺςthe νεκροὺςdead (ones) καὶand ζωοποιεῖ,is making alive, οὕτωςthus καὶalso ὁthe υἱὸςSon οὓςwhich (ones) θέλειhe is willing ζωοποιεῖ.he is making alive. 22 οὐδὲNeither γὰρfor ὁthe πατὴρFather κρίνειis judging οὐδένα,anyone, ἀλλὰbut τὴνthe κρίσινjudgment πᾶσανall δέδωκενhe has given τῷto the υἱῷ,Son, 23 ἵναin order that πάντεςall τιμῶσιthey may honor τὸνthe υἱὸνSon καθὼςaccording as τιμῶσιthey are honoring τὸνthe πατέρα.Father. ὁThe (one) μὴnot τιμῶνhonoring τὸνthe υἱὸνSon οὐnot τιμᾷis honoring τὸνthe πατέραFather τὸνthe (one) πέμψανταhaving sent αὐτόν.him. 24 ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat ὁthe (one) τὸνthe λόγονword μουof me ἀκούωνhearing καὶand πιστεύωνbelieving τῷto the (one) πέμψαντίhaving sent μεme ἔχειis having ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον,everlasting, καὶand εἰςinto κρίσινjudgment οὐκnot ἔρχεταιhe is coming ἀλλὰbut μεταβέβηκενhe has gone over ἐκout of τοῦthe θανάτουdeath εἰςinto τὴνthe ζωήν.life.

25 ἀμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat ἔρχεταιis coming ὥραhour καὶand νῦνnow ἐστὶνit is ὅτεwhen οἱthe νεκροὶdead (ones) ἀκούσουσινwill hear τῆςof the φωνῆςvoice τοῦof the υἱοῦSon τοῦof the θεοῦGod καὶand οἱthe (ones) ἀκούσαντεςhaving heard ζήσουσιν.will live. 26 ὥσπερAs-even γὰρfor ὁthe πατὴρFather ἔχειis having ζωὴνlife ἐνin ἑαυτῷ,himself, οὕτωςthus καὶalso τῷto the υἱῷSon ἔδωκενhe gave ζωὴνlife ἔχεινto be having ἐνin ἑαυτῷ·himself; 27 καὶand ἐξουσίανauthority ἔδωκενhe gave αὐτῷto him κρίσινjudgment ποιεῖν,to be doing, ὅτιbecause υἱὸςSon ἀνθρώπουof man ἐστίν.he is. 28 μὴNot θαυμάζετεbe you wondering at τοῦτο,this, ὅτιbecause ἔρχεταιis coming ὥραhour ἐνin ᾗwhich πάντεςall οἱthe (ones) ἐνin τοῖςthe μνημείοιςmemorial tombs ἀκούσουσινwill hear τῆςof the φωνῆςvoice αὐτοῦof him 29 καὶand ἐκπορεύσονταιwill come out οἱthe (ones) τὰthe ἀγαθὰgood (things) ποιήσαντεςhaving done εἰςinto ἀνάστασινresurrection ζωῆς,of life, οἱthe (ones) τὰthe φαῦλαvile (things) πράξαντεςhaving practiced εἰςinto ἀνάστασινresurrection κρίσεως.of judgment. 30 ΟὐNot δύναμαιam able ἐγὼI ποιεῖνto be doing ἀπ’from ἐμαυτοῦmyself οὐδέν·nothing; καθὼςaccording as ἀκούωI am hearing κρίνω,I am judging, καὶand ἡthe κρίσιςjudgment ἡthe ἐμὴmine δικαίαrighteous ἐστίν,it is, ὅτιbecause οὐnot ζητῶI am seeking τὸthe θέλημαwill τὸthe ἐμὸνmine ἀλλὰbut τὸthe θέλημαwill τοῦof the (one) πέμψαντόςhaving sent με.me.

31 ᾿ΕὰνIf ever ἐγὼI μαρτυρῶmay witness περὶabout ἐμαυτοῦ,myself, ἡthe μαρτυρίαwitness μουof me οὐκnot ἔστινis ἀληθής·true; 32 ἄλλοςanother ἐστὶνis ὁthe (one) μαρτυρῶνwitnessing περὶabout ἐμοῦ,me, καὶand οἶδαI have known ὅτιthat ἀληθήςtrue ἐστινis ἡthe μαρτυρίαwitness ἣνwhich μαρτυρεῖhe is witnessing περὶabout ἐμοῦ.me. 33 ὑμεῖςyou ἀπεστάλκατεhave sent forth πρὸςtoward Ἰωάνην,John, καὶand μεμαρτύρηκεhe has borne witness τῇto the ἀληθείᾳ·truth; 34 ἐγὼI δὲbut οὐnot παρὰbeside ἀνθρώπουof man τὴνthe μαρτυρίανwitness λαμβάνω,am receiving, ἀλλὰbut ταῦταthese (things) λέγωI am saying ἵναin order that ὑμεῖςyou σωθῆτε.might be saved. 35 ἐκεῖνοςThat (one) ἦνwas ὁthe λύχνοςlamp ὁthe καιόμενοςburning καὶand φαίνων,shining, ὑμεῖςyou δὲbut ἠθελήσατεwilled ἀγαλλιαθῆναιto exult πρὸςtoward ὥρανhour ἐνin τῷthe φωτὶlight αὐτοῦ·of him; 36 ἐγὼI δὲbut ἔχωam having τὴνthe μαρτυρίανwitness μείζωgreater τοῦof the Ἰωάνου,John, τὰthe γὰρfor ἔργαworks ἃwhich δέδωκένhas given μοιto me ὁthe πατὴρFather ἵναin order that τελειώσωI might finish αὐτά,them, αὐτὰthey τὰthe ἔργαworks ἃwhich ποιῶ,I am doing, μαρτυρεῖis witness περὶabout ἐμοῦme ὅτιthat ὁthe πατήρFather μεme ἀπέσταλκεν,has sent forth, 37 καὶand ὁthe πέμψαςhaving sent μεme πατὴρFather ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) μεμαρτύρηκενhas borne witness περὶabout ἐμοῦ.me. οὔτεNeither φωνὴνvoice αὐτοῦof him πώποτεat any time ἀκηκόατεyou have heard οὔτεnor εἶδοςfigure αὐτοῦof him ἑωράκατε,you have seen, 38 καὶand τὸνthe λόγονword αὐτοῦof him οὐκnot ἔχετεyou are having ἐνin ὑμῖνyou μένοντα,remaining, ὅτιbecause ὃνwhom ἀπέστειλενsent forth ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) τούτῳto this (one) ὑμεῖςyou οὐnot πιστεύετε.are believing.

39 ἐραυνᾶτεyou are searching τὰςthe γραφάς,Scriptures, ὅτιbecause ὑμεῖςyou δοκεῖτεare thinking ἐνin αὐταῖςthem ζωὴνlife αἰώνιονeverlasting ἔχειν·to be having; καὶand ἐκεῖναίthose εἰσινare αἱthe (ones) μαρτυροῦσαιbearing witness περὶabout ἐμοῦ·me; 40 καὶand οὐnot θέλετεyou are willing ἐλθεῖνto come πρόςtoward μεme ἵναin order that ζωὴνlife ἔχητε.you may have. 41 ΔόξανGlory παρὰbeside ἀνθρώπωνof men οὐnot λαμβάνω,I am receiving, 42 ἀλλὰbut ἔγνωκαI have known ὑμᾶςyou ὅτιthat τὴνthe ἀγάπηνlove τοῦof the θεοῦGod οὐκnot ἔχετεyou are having ἐνin ἑαυτοῖς.selves. 43 ἐγὼI ἐλήλυθαhave come ἐνin τῷthe ὀνόματιname τοῦof the πατρόςFather μουof me καὶand οὐnot λαμβάνετέyou are receiving με·me; ἐὰνif ever ἄλλοςanother ἔλθῃshould come ἐνin τῷthe ὀνόματιname τῷto the ἰδίῳ,own, ἐκεῖνονthat (one) λήμψεσθε.you will receive. 44 πῶςHow δύνασθεare able ὑμεῖςyou πιστεῦσαι,to believe, δόξανglory παρ’beside ἀλλήλωνof one another λαμβάνοντες,receiving, καὶand τὴνthe δόξανglory τὴνthe (one) παρὰbeside τοῦof the μόνουonly θεοῦGod οὐnot ζητεῖτε;you are seeking? 45 μὴNot δοκεῖτεbe thinking you ὅτιthat ἐγὼI κατηγορήσωshall accuse ὑμῶνyou πρὸςtoward τὸνthe πατέρα·Father; ἔστινis ὁthe (one) κατηγορῶνaccusing ὑμῶνyou Μωυσῆς,Moses, εἰςinto ὃνwhom ὑμεῖςyou ἠλπίκατε.have hoped. 46 εἰIf γὰρfor ἐπιστεύετεyou were believing Μωυσεῖ,to Moses, ἐπιστεύετεyou were believing ἂνlikely ἐμοί,to me, περὶabout γὰρfor ἐμοῦof me ἐκεῖνοςthat (one) ἔγραψεν.wrote. 47 εἰIf δὲbut τοῖςto the ἐκείνουof that (one) γράμμασινwritings οὐnot πιστεύετε,you are believing, πῶςhow τοῖςto the ἐμοῖςmy ῥήμασινsayings πιστεύσετε;you will believe?

10 εἶπενSaid ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ΠοιήσατεMake you τοὺςthe ἀνθρώπουςmen ἀναπεσεῖν.to fall upward. ἦνWas δὲbut χόρτοςgrass πολὺςmuch ἐνin τῷthe τόπῳ.place. ἀνέπεσανFell upward οὖνtherefore οἱthe ἄνδρεςmale persons τὸνthe ἀριθμὸνnumber ὡςas πεντακισχίλιοι.five thousand. 11 ἔλαβενReceived οὖνtherefore τοὺςthe ἄρτουςloaves ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εὐχαριστήσαςhaving thanked διέδωκενdistributed τοῖςto the (ones) ἀνακειμένοις,lying upward, ὁμοίωςlikewise καὶalso ἐκout of τῶνthe ὀψαρίωνsmall fishes ὅσονas much as ἤθελον.they willed. 12 ὡςAs δὲbut ἐνεπλήσθησανthey were filled within λέγειhe is saying τοῖςto the μαθηταῖςdisciples αὐτοῦof him ΣυναγάγετεLead you together τὰthe περισσεύσανταhaving overabounded κλάσματα,fragments, ἵναin order that μήnot τιanything ἀπόληται.should be lost. 13 συνήγαγονThey led together οὖν,therefore, καὶand ἐγέμισανfilled δώδεκαtwelve κοφίνουςbaskets κλασμάτωνof fragments ἐκout of τῶνthe πέντεfive ἄρτωνloaves τῶνof the κριθίνωνbarley ἃwhich ἐπερίσσευσανoverabounded τοῖςto the (ones) βεβρωκόσιν.having taken food.

14 ΟἱThe οὖνtherefore ἄνθρωποιmen ἰδόντεςhaving seen ἃwhat ἐποίησενhe did σημεῖαsigns ἔλεγονwere saying ὅτιthat ΟὗτόςThis ἐστινis ἀληθῶςtruly ὁthe προφήτηςprophet ὁthe (one) ἐρχόμενοςcoming εἰςinto τὸνthe κόσμον.world. 15 ἸησοῦςJesus οὖνtherefore γνοὺςhaving known ὅτιthat μέλλουσινthey are about ἔρχεσθαιto be coming καὶand ἁρπάζεινto be snatching αὐτὸνhim ἵναin order that ποιήσωσινthey might make βασιλέαking ἀνεχώρησενhe withdrew πάλινagain εἰςinto τὸthe ὄροςmountain αὐτὸςhe μόνος.alone.

16 ὩςAs δὲbut ὀψίαevening ἐγένετοoccurred κατέβησανwent down οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him ἐπὶupon τὴνthe θάλασσαν,sea, 17 καὶand ἐμβάντεςhaving entered εἰςinto πλοῖονboat ἤρχοντοthey were coming πέρανother side τῆςof the θαλάσσηςsea εἰςinto Καφαρναούμ.Capernaum. καὶAnd σκοτίαdarkness ἤδηalready ἐγεγόνειhad occurred καὶand οὔπωnot yet ἐληλύθειhad come πρὸςtoward αὐτοὺςthem ὁthe Ἰησοῦς,Jesus, 18 ἥthe τεand θάλασσαsea ἀνέμουof wind μεγάλουgreat πνέοντοςblowing διεγείρετο.was being thoroughly roused. 19 ἐληλακότεςHaving impelled οὖνtherefore ὡςas σταδίουςstades εἴκοσιtwenty- πέντεfive ἢor τριάκονταthirty θεωροῦσινthey are beholding τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus περιπατοῦνταwalking about ἐπὶupon τῆςthe θαλάσσηςsea καὶand ἐγγὺςnear τοῦthe πλοίουboat γινόμενον,coming to be, καὶand ἐφοβήθησαν.they got fearful. 20 ὁThe (one) δὲbut λέγειis saying αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΕγώI εἰμι,am, μὴnot φοβεῖσθε.be you fearing. 21 ἤθελονThey were willing οὖνtherefore λαβεῖνto receive αὐτὸνhim εἰςinto τὸthe πλοῖον,boat, καὶand εὐθέωςimmediately ἐγένετοcame to be τὸthe πλοῖονboat ἐπὶupon τῆςthe γῆςearth εἰςinto ἣνwhich ὑπῆγον.they were going under.

22 ΤῇTo the ἐπαύριονmorrow ὁthe ὄχλοςcrowd ὁthe (one) ἑστηκὼςhaving stood πέρανother side τῆςof the θαλάσσηςsea εἶδονsaw ὅτιthat πλοιάριονlittle boat ἄλλοother οὐκnot ἦνwas ἐκεῖthere εἰif μὴnot ἕν,one, καὶand ὅτιthat οὐnot συνεισῆλθενhe entered with τοῖςthe μαθηταῖςdisciples αὐτοῦof him ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus εἰςinto τὸthe πλοῖονboat ἀλλὰbut μόνοιalone οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦof him ἀπῆλθον·went away; 23 ἀλλὰbut ἦλθενcame πλοῖαboats ἐκout of ΤιβεριάδοςTiberias ἐγγὺςnear τοῦthe τόπουplace ὅπουwhere ἔφαγονthey ate τὸνthe ἄρτονbread εὐχαριστήσαντοςhaving given thanks τοῦof the κυρίου.Lord. 24 ὅτεWhen οὖνtherefore εἶδενsaw ὁthe ὄχλοςcrowd ὅτιthat ἸησοῦςJesus οὐκnot ἔστινis ἐκεῖthere οὐδὲnor οἱthe μαθηταὶdisciples αὐτοῦ,of him, ἐνέβησανwent in αὐτοὶthey εἰςinto τὰthe πλοιάριαlittle boats καὶand ἦλθονcame εἰςinto ΚαφαρναοὺμCapernaum ζητοῦντεςseeking τὸνthe Ἰησοῦν.Jesus.

25 καὶAnd εὑρόντεςhaving found αὐτὸνhim πέρανother side τῆςof the θαλάσσηςsea εἶπονthey said αὐτῷto him Ῥαββεί,Rabbi, πότεwhen ὧδεhere γέγονας;have you come to be? 26 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εἶπενsaid ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying ὑμῖν,to you, ζητεῖτέyou are seeking μεme οὐχnot ὅτιbecause εἴδετεyou saw σημεῖαsigns ἀλλ’but ὅτιbecause ἐφάγετεyou ate ἐκout of τῶνthe ἄρτωνloaves καὶand ἐχορτάσθητε·you got satisfied; 27 ἐργάζεσθεbe you working for μὴnot τὴνthe βρῶσινfood τὴνthe (one) ἀπολλυμένηνbeing destroyed ἀλλὰbut τὴνthe βρῶσινfood τὴνthe (one) μένουσανremaining εἰςinto ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον,everlasting, ἣνwhich ὁthe υἱὸςSon τοῦof the ἀνθρώπουman ὑμῖνto you δώσει,will give, τοῦτονthis (one) γὰρfor ὁthe πατὴρFather ἐσφράγισενsealed ὁthe θεός.God.

28 εἶπονThey said οὖνtherefore πρὸςtoward αὐτόνhim ΤίWhat ποιῶμενmay we be doing ἵναin order that ἐργαζώμεθαwe may be working τὰthe ἔργαworks τοῦof the θεοῦ;God? 29 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus καὶand εἶπενsaid αὐτοῖςto them ΤοῦτόThis ἐστινis τὸthe ἔργονwork τοῦof the θεοῦGod ἵναin order that πιστεύητεyou may believe εἰςinto ὃνwhom ἀπέστειλενsent forth ἐκεῖνος.that (one). 30 εἶπονThey said οὖνtherefore αὐτῷto him ΤίWhat οὖνtherefore ποιεῖςare doing σὺyou σημεῖον,sign, ἵναin order that ἴδωμενwe might see καὶand πιστεύσωμένwe might believe σοι;to you? τίWhat ἐργάζῃ;are you working? 31 οἱThe πατέρεςfathers ἡμῶνof us τὸthe μάνναmanna ἔφαγονate ἐνin τῇthe ἐρήμῳ,desolate [place], καθώςaccording as ἐστινit is γεγραμμένονhaving been written ἌρτονBread ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven ἔδωκενhe gave αὐτοῖςto them φαγεῖν.to eat. 32 εἶπενSaid οὖνtherefore αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΑμὴνAmen ἀμὴνamen λέγωI am saying ὑμῖν,to you, οὐnot ΜωυσῆςMoses ἔδωκενgave ὑμῖνto you τὸνthe ἄρτονbread ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦ,heaven, ἀλλ’but ὁthe πατήρFather μουof me δίδωσινis giving ὑμῖνto you τὸνthe ἄρτονbread ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven τὸνthe ἀληθινόν·true. 33 ὁThe γὰρbut ἄρτοςbread τοῦof the θεοῦGod ἐστὶνis ὁthe (one) καταβαίνωνcoming down ἐκout of τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven καὶand ζωὴνlife διδοὺςgiving τῷto the κόσμῳ.world. 34 εἶπονThey said οὖνtherefore πρὸςtoward αὐτόνhim Κύριε,Lord, πάντοτεalways δὸςgive ἡμῖνto us τὸνthe ἄρτονbread τοῦτον.this.

35 εἶπενSaid αὐτοῖςto them ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΕγώI εἰμιam ὁthe ἄρτοςbread τῆςof the ζωῆς·life; ὁthe (one) ἐρχόμενοςcoming πρὸςtoward ἐμὲme οὐnot μὴnot πεινάσῃ,should hunger, καὶand ὁthe (one) πιστεύωνbelieving εἰςinto ἐμὲme οὐnot μὴnot διψήσειwill thirst πώποτε.at any time. 36 ἀλλ’But εἶπονI said ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat καὶalso ἑωράκατέyou have seen μεme καὶand οὐnot πιστεύετε.you are believing. 37 ΠᾶνAll ὃwhich δίδωσίνis giving μοιto me ὁthe πατὴρFather πρὸςtoward ἐμὲme ἥξει,will arrive, καὶand τὸνthe (one) ἐρχόμενονcoming πρόςtoward μεme οὐnot μὴnot ἐκβάλωI should eject ἔξω,outside, 38 ὅτιbecause καταβέβηκαI have come down ἀπὸfrom τοῦthe οὐρανοῦheaven οὐχnot ἵναin order that ποιῶI may be doing τὸthe θέλημαwill τὸthe ἐμὸνmine ἀλλὰbut τὸthe θέλημαwill τοῦof the (one) πέμψαντόςhaving sent με·me; 39 τοῦτοthis δέbut ἐστινis τὸthe θέλημαwill τοῦof the (one) πέμψαντόςhaving sent μεme ἵναin order that πᾶνall ὃwhich δέδωκένhe has given μοιto me μὴnot ἀπολέσωI should destroy ἐξout of αὐτοῦit ἀλλὰbut ἀναστήσωI should resurrect αὐτὸit τῇto the ἐσχάτῃlast ἡμέρᾳ.day. 40 τοῦτοThis γάρfor ἐστινis τὸthe θέλημαwill τοῦof the πατρόςFather μουof me ἵναin order that πᾶςeveryone ὁthe θεωρῶνbeholding τὸνthe υἱὸνSon καὶand πιστεύωνbelieving εἰςinto αὐτὸνhim ἔχῃmay have ζωὴνlife αἰώνιον,everlasting, καὶand ἀναστήσωI shall resurrect αὐτὸνhim ἐγὼI τῇto the ἐσχάτῃlast ἡμέρᾳ.day.

6 ὡςAs οὖνtherefore εἶπενhe said αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΕγώI εἰμι,am, ἀπῆλθανthey went off εἰςinto τὰthe (things) ὀπίσωbehind καὶand ἔπεσανfell χαμαί.on the ground. 7 πάλινAgain οὖνtherefore ἐπηρώτησενhe inquired upon αὐτούςthem ΤίναWhom ζητεῖτε;are you seeking? οἱThe (ones) δὲbut εἶπανsaidἸησοῦνJesus τὸνthe Ναζωραῖον.Nazarene. 8 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus ΕἶπονI said ὑμῖνto you ὅτιthat ἐγώI εἰμι·am; εἰif οὖνtherefore ἐμὲme ζητεῖτε,you are seeking, ἄφετεlet you go off τούτουςthese ὑπάγειν·to be going under; 9 ἵναin order that πληρωθῇmight be fulfilled ὁthe λόγοςword ὃνwhich εἶπενhe said ὅτιthat ΟὓςWhom δέδωκάςyou have given μοιto me οὐκnot ἀπώλεσαI destroyed ἐξout of αὐτῶνthem οὐδένα.no one.

12 ἩThe οὖνtherefore σπεῖραband καὶand ὁthe χιλίαρχοςchiliarch καὶand οἱthe ὑπηρέταιsubordinates τῶνof the ἸουδαίωνJews συνέλαβονtook with τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus καὶand ἔδησανbound αὐτὸνhim 13 καὶand ἤγαγονthey led πρὸςtoward ἍννανAnnas πρῶτον·first; ἦνhe was γὰρfor πενθερὸςfather-in-law τοῦof the Καιάφα,Caiaphas, ὃςwho ἦνwas ἀρχιερεὺςchief priest τοῦof the ἐνιαυτοῦyear ἐκείνου·that; 14 ἦνwas δὲbut ΚαιάφαςCaiaphas ὁthe (one) συμβουλεύσαςhaving counseled τοῖςto the ἸουδαίοιςJews ὅτιthat συμφέρειit is bearing together ἕναone ἄνθρωπονman ἀποθανεῖνto die ὑπὲρover τοῦthe λαοῦ.people.

19 ὉThe οὖνtherefore ἀρχιερεὺςchief priest ἠρώτησενquestioned τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus περὶabout τῶνthe μαθητῶνdisciples αὐτοῦof him καὶand περὶabout τῆςthe διδαχῆςteaching αὐτοῦ.of him. 20 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered αὐτῷto him ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΕγὼI παρρησίᾳoutspokenly λελάληκαI have spoken τῷto the κόσμῳ·world; ἐγὼI πάντοτεalways ἐδίδαξαtaught ἐνin συναγωγῇsynagogue καὶand ἐνin τῷthe ἱερῷ,temple, ὅπουwhere πάντεςall οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews συνέρχονται,are coming together, καὶand ἐνin κρυπτῷhidden [place] ἐλάλησαI spoke οὐδέν·nothing; 21 τίwhy μεme ἐρωτᾷς;are you questioning? ἐρώτησονQuestion τοὺςthe (ones) ἀκηκοόταςhaving heard τίwhat ἐλάλησαI spoke αὐτοῖς·to them; ἴδεsee! οὗτοιthese οἴδασινhave known ἃwhat (things) εἶπονsaid ἐγώ.I. 22 ταῦταThese (things)δὲbut αὐτοῦof him εἰπόντοςhaving said εἷςone παρεστηκὼςhaving stood alongside τῶνof the ὑπηρετῶνsubordinates ἔδωκενgave ῥάπισμαslap τῷto the ἸησοῦJesus εἰπώνhaving said ΟὕτωςThus ἀποκρίνῃare you answering τῷto the ἀρχιερεῖ;chief priest? 23 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered αὐτῷto him ἸησοῦςJesus ΕἰIf κακῶςbadly ἐλάλησα,I spoke, μαρτύρησονbear witness περὶabout τοῦthe κακοῦ·bad; εἰif δὲbut καλῶς,finely, τίwhy μεme δέρεις;are you flaying? 24 ᾿ΑπέστειλενSent off οὖνtherefore αὐτὸνhim ὁthe ἍνναςAnnas δεδεμένονhaving been bound πρὸςtoward ΚαιάφανCaiaphas τὸνthe ἀρχιερέα.high priest.

25 ῏ΗνWas δὲbut ΣίμωνSimon ΠέτροςPeter ἑστὼςhaving stood καὶand θερμαινόμενος.warming himself. εἶπονThey said οὖνtherefore αὐτῷto him ΜὴNot καὶalso σὺyou ἐκout of τῶνthe μαθητῶνdisciples αὐτοῦof him εἶ;you are? ἠρνήσατοDenied ἐκεῖνοςthat one καὶand εἶπενsaid ΟὐκNot εἰμί.I am. 26 λέγειIs saying εἷςone ἐκout of τῶνthe δούλωνslaves τοῦof the ἀρχιερέως,chief priest, συγγενὴςrelative ὢνbeing οὗof whom ἀπέκοψενcut off ΠέτροςPeter τὸthe ὠτίονear ΟὐκNot ἐγώI σεyou εἶδονsaw ἐνin τῷthe κήπῳgarden μετ’with αὐτοῦ;him? 27 πάλινAgain οὖνtherefore ἠρνήσατοdenied Πέτρος·Peter; καὶand εὐθέωςimmediately ἀλέκτωρcock ἐφώνησεν.sounded.

28 ἌγουσινThey are leading οὖνtherefore τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus ἀπὸfrom τοῦthe ΚαιάφαCaiaphas εἰςinto τὸthe πραιτώριον·praetorium; ἦνit was δὲbut πρωί·early. καὶAnd αὐτοὶthey οὐκnot εἰσῆλθονentered εἰςinto τὸthe πραιτώριον,praetorium, ἵναin order that μὴnot μιανθῶσινshould get defiled ἀλλὰbut φάγωσινthey might eat τὸthe πάσχα.passover. 29 ἐξῆλθενWent forth οὖνtherefore ὁthe ΠειλᾶτοςPilate ἔξωoutside πρὸςtoward αὐτοὺςthem καὶand φησινis saying ΤίναWhat κατηγορίανaccusation φέρετεare you bringing τοῦof the ἀνθρώπουman τούτου;this? 30 ἀπεκρίθησανThey answered καὶand εἶπανthey said αὐτῷto himΕἰIf μὴnot ἦνwas οὗτοςthis (one) κακὸνbad ποιῶν,doing, οὐκnot ἄνlikely σοιto you παρεδώκαμενwe gave beside αὐτόν.him. 31 εἶπενSaid οὖνtherefore αὐτοῖςto them ΠειλᾶτοςPilate ΛάβετεTake αὐτὸνhim ὑμεῖς,you, καὶand κατὰaccording to τὸνthe νόμονlaw ὑμῶνof you κρίνατεjudge αὐτόν.him. εἶπονSaid αὐτῷto him οἱthe ἸουδαῖοιJews ἩμῖνTo us οὐκnot ἔξεστινit is lawful ἀποκτεῖναιto kill οὐδένα·no one; 32 ἵναthat ὁthe λόγοςword τοῦof the ἸησοῦJesus πληρωθῇmight be fulfilled ὃνwhich εἶπενhe said σημαίνωνsignifying ποίῳto what sort of θανάτῳdeath ἤμελλενhe was about ἀποθνήσκειν.to die.

33 ΕἰσῆλθενEntered οὖνtherefore πάλινagain εἰςinto τὸthe πραιτώριονpraetorium ὁthe ΠειλᾶτοςPilate καὶand ἐφώνησενhe sounded for τὸνthe ἸησοῦνJesus καὶand εἶπενhe said αὐτῷto him ΣὺYou εἶare ὁthe βασιλεὺςking τῶνof the Ἰουδαίων;Jews? 34 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus ᾿ΑπὸFrom σεαυτοῦyourself σὺyou τοῦτοthis λέγειςare saying ἢor ἄλλοιothers εἶπόνsaid σοιto you περὶabout ἐμοῦ;me? 35 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ὁthe ΠειλᾶτοςPilate ΜήτιNot what ἐγὼI ἸουδαῖόςJew εἰμι;am? τὸThe ἔθνοςnation τὸthe σὸνyour καὶand οἱthe ἀρχιερεῖςchief priests παρέδωκάνgave beside σεyou ἐμοί·to me; τίwhat ἐποίησας;did you do? 36 ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ἸησοῦςJesus ἩThe βασιλείαkingdom ἡthe ἐμὴmine οὐκnot ἔστινis ἐκout of τοῦthe κόσμουworld τούτου·this; εἰif ἐκout of τοῦthe κόσμουworld τούτουthis ἦνwas ἡthe βασιλείαkingdom ἡthe ἐμή,mine, οἱthe ὑπηρέταιsubordinates οἱthe ἐμοὶmine ἠγωνίζοντοwere struggling ἄν,likely, ἵναin order that μὴnot παραδοθῶI should be given beside τοῖςto the Ἰουδαίοις·Jews; νῦνnow δὲbut ἡthe βασιλείαkingdom ἡthe ἐμὴmine οὐκnot ἔστινis ἐντεῦθεν.from here. 37 εἶπενSaid οὖνtherefore αὐτῷto him ὁthe ΠειλᾶτοςPilate ΟὐκοῦνNot-therefore βασιλεὺςking εἶare σύ;you? ἀπεκρίθηAnswered ὁthe ἸησοῦςJesus ΣὺYou λέγειςare saying ὅτιthat βασιλεύςking εἰμι.I am. ἐγὼI εἰςinto τοῦτοthis γεγέννημαιI have been born καὶand εἰςinto τοῦτοthis ἐλήλυθαI have come εἰςinto τὸνthe κόσμονworld ἵναin order that μαρτυρήσωI should bear witness τῇto the ἀληθείᾳ·truth; πᾶςeveryone ὁthe ὢνbeing ἐκout ofτῆςthe ἀληθείαςtruth ἀκούειis hearing μουof me τῆςof the φωνῆς.voice. 38 λέγειIs saying αὐτῷto him ὁthe ΠειλᾶτοςPilate ΤίWhat ἐστινis ἀλήθεια;truth?

ΚαὶAnd τοῦτοthis εἰπὼνhaving said πάλινagain ἐξῆλθενhe went out πρὸςtoward τοὺςthe Ἰουδαίους,Jews, καὶand λέγειhe is saying αὐτοῖςto them ᾿ΕγὼI οὐδεμίανnot one εὑρίσκωI am finding ἐνin αὐτῷhim αἰτίαν·cause; 39 ἔστινis δὲbut συνήθειαcustom ὑμῖνto you ἵναin order that ἕναone ἀπολύσωI should release ὑμῖνto you ἐνin τῷthe πάσχα·passover; βούλεσθεare you wishing οὖνtherefore ἀπολύσωI should release ὑμῖνto you τὸνthe βασιλέαking τῶνof the Ἰουδαίων;Jews? 40 ἐκραύγασανThey cried out οὖνtherefore πάλινagain λέγοντεςsaying ΜὴNot τοῦτονthis (one) ἀλλὰbut τὸνthe Βαραββᾶν.Barabbas. ἦνWas δὲbut ὁthe ΒαραββᾶςBarabbas λῃστής.robber.
